Overview
Brief History
Kigosi National Park, gazetted in 2019, covers 7,460 km² in northwest Tanzania, upgraded from the Kigosi Game Reserve. Managed by TANAPA, it encompasses the Moyowosi River basin, a critical wetland ecosystem and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The park supports diverse wildlife, including elephants, crocodiles, and rare sitatunga antelopes.
Climate and Accessibility
Accessible by charter flights to Kigosi airstrip or by road from Tabora (200 km, challenging during rains). The dry season (June-October) is best for visits, with temperatures of 22-30°C. The wet season (November-April) brings 1,000-1,500 mm rainfall, making wetlands lush but access difficult.
