Sample Itinerary


Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Lushoto – Begin the Trek

Depart from Arusha or Moshi after breakfast, driving to Lushoto in the Usambara Mountains (approx. 5 hours). Arrive by midday, enjoy a packed lunch, and start your trek to Kwembago, a historic Sambaa village. Continue to Magamba Rainforest, visiting a German trench from World War I. Overnight at a lodge or guesthouse. Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Magamba to Lukozi – Rainforest and Villages

After breakfast, trek through Magamba Rainforest, spotting black and white colobus monkeys and unique flora. Pass through local farms and villages of the Mbugu and Pare tribes. Arrive at Lukozi village for an overnight stay at a guesthouse or lodge, enjoying views of the sloping hillsides. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Lukozi to Rangwi – Cultural Encounters

Trek from Lukozi to Rangwi, passing vegetable farms lined with eucalyptus and banana trees. Visit a women’s pottery project and learn about traditional crafts. Enjoy scenic viewpoints and cultural interactions with the Sambaa people. Overnight at Rangwi Sisters Guesthouse or similar. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Rangwi to Mtae and Return – Final Trek

Start with a sunrise view of Kilimanjaro (weather permitting) and trek to Mtae via Shagayu Peak (2,220m). Visit a traditional medicine man and enjoy lunch at Mtae Viewpoint. Return to Lushoto by vehicle, then drive back to Arusha or Moshi, arriving by late afternoon. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
