Sample Itinerary


Day 1: Moshi/Arusha to Mandara Hut – Begin the Climb

Depart from Moshi or Arusha after breakfast, driving to Marangu Gate (1,860m). Start the trek through lush rainforest to Mandara Hut (2,700m), about 3-4 hours. Enjoy dinner and overnight at the hut. Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut – Moorland Trek

After breakfast, trek through heath and moorland to Horombo Hut (3,720m), about 5-6 hours. Enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Acclimatize and rest at the hut. Overnight at Horombo Hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut – Alpine Ascent

Trek through the alpine desert to Kibo Hut (4,703m), about 5-6 hours, passing the “Saddle” between Kibo and Mawenzi. Rest early to prepare for the summit push. Overnight at Kibo Hut. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4: Kibo Hut to Summit and Descent – Summit Day

Begin the summit push at midnight, trekking to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) and Uhuru Peak (5,895m) by sunrise, about 6-8 hours. Descend to Horombo Hut (3,720m) for the night, totaling 12-15 hours of trekking. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Moshi/Arusha – Final Descent

After breakfast, descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate (1,860m), about 5-6 hours. Receive your summit certificate, enjoy a packed lunch, and transfer back to Moshi or Arusha by late afternoon. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
