Well known as Coca-Cola route, Marangu route is the first discovered routeway to the Uhuru Peak of Kilimanjaro Mountain. Being the first discovered route, Marangu is the most developed route equipped with several amenities such as Sleeping huts other than camping. The huts are also equipped with mattresses and pillows, but still climbers have to be with their sleeping bags. Marangu climbing route approaches the Uhuru peak of the Kilimanjaro Mountain on its Southeast, and it is where you will find the Kilimanjaro National Park headquarters at your starting point of the adventure. 5 days climbing via the popular Marangu route, you will have the 4 nights in the Kilimanjaro mountain with stops being Mandara hut, Horombo hut, and Kibo hut where you will have your three overnight and your last overnight will be at Horombo hut again on your way back from the peak. Here will be your adventure plan.

Day 1: Moshi to Marangu Gate and hike up to Mandara Hut

Walking habitat: Rain forest
Elevation: 6,046ft (Marangu gate) to 8,858ft (Mandara Hut)
Hiking time:4 to 5hrs Marangu Gate to Mandara hut
Distance:8km (Marangu gate to Mandara)

Your first day will begin early in the morning with your breakfast from the accommodation you logged in. Thereafter, you will be picked by Serengeti Wonder’s driver accompanied by your Mountain chief guide ready for the journey drive to Marangu Gate. Your Mountain guide will do the last time checkup for your climbing equipment to ensure you do not miss anything, and it is here where you will be briefed about your 5 days’ adventure climb. At the gate you finish up the park formalities and start your hike from Marangu gate to Mandara hut where you will have your first overnight in the Mountain. The hike will be of ascending via the wonderful tropical rain forest where you can be in a position of viewing the blue monkeys, the trail will then reveal a beautiful hillside until reaching your first overnight place which is Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo hut

The day will start with the morning breakfast at Mandara hut prepared by your mountain chef then start your hike which will be a continuous hike via the forest until the trail takes you to the high moorland forest. At this point you will be able to see your first sight of the Kibo and Mawenzi Kilimanjaro cones which are the two of the three Kilimanjaro peaks. You will then be at the Horombo hut where you will spend your second night.

Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Walking habitat: Alpine Desert
Elevation: 12,205ft (Horombo) to 15,430ft (Mandara Hut)
Hiking time:6 to 8hrs Horombo hut to Kibo hut
Distance:10 km (Horombo to Kibo)

The day will be a gradual hike then crosses the saddle between the two Kilimanjaro cones of Kibo and Mawenzi. You will then take a walk to your third overnight hut of Kibo which lies at the bottom of the Kibo crater wall. Here you will take your rest with an early dinner and early rest for your awaiting adventure of the summit to the Uhuru peak.

Day 4, Summit Day (Kibo to Uhuru Peak, Uhuru peak to Horombo Hut)

Walking habitat: Arctic (Kibo hut to Uhuru peak) and Heath (Uhuru to Horombo hut);
Elevation: 15,430ft (Kibo) to 19,341(Uhuru Peak); 19,341ft (Uhuru peak) to 12,250ft (Horombo)
Hiking time:6 to 8hrs Kibo hut Uhuru peak; 4 to 5hrs Uhuru peak to Horombo hut
Distance: 6km (Kibo hut to Horombo); 16km (Uhuru peak to Horombo hut)

“A dream come true day” a day starts early in the morning which is around midnight where you will start the “Polepole” walk to the Uhuru peak. This is both a mental and physical challenging hike of the Kilimanjaro Adventure where, wind, cold, elevation and time of the day can an extreme condition. The hike will be in the darkness with some frequent short breaks. Your polepole walk will take you to Gilman’s point where you will be awarded with a magnificent sunrise coming from the Mawenzi peak, you will then continue your polepole hike, and finally you will be at the Uhuru peak “You are now at the highest point in Africa, Congratulations”.

After spending some few moments taking shots and enjoying your victory of being ate the highest peak in Africa, you will then descend down to Horombo hut where you can spend your last night in the Mountain.

Day 5, Horombo to Marangu gate and back to Moshi

Elevation: 12,205ft (Horombo) to 6,046ft (Marangu gate)
Hiking time:5 to 7hrs Horombo hut to Marangu gate
Distance:20 km (Horombo to Marangu gate)

This is your last adventure day where you will have your breakfast at Horombo hut and then continue your descent down to Marangu Gate where your adventure started. You will be walking in the downhill tropical rain forest. Reaching at the gate you will collect your award winning adventure certificate and Serengeti wonder’s driver will be waiting for your driving back to Moshi town.
