The reason is, the minimum climbing days are 5 and      during those days one need to eat, drink and someone to guide you through the route and one to carry your goods (Porters) and all the       mentioned services are to be provided by the tour company. This is an established regulation that any climber has to climb the Kilimanjaro under a            registered tour company whereby this is regulated under the National Park     Authority and TANAPA.
